Nouns that are subjects, objects, and predicate/complements fit in the kernel. Other nouns fit in the modifier which focuses on description. A genitive noun is a modifier noun that acts like a modifier and answers the question "whose?"
Genitive nouns are also known as possessive nouns. In English there are two ways of expressing a possessive noun:
Genitives always have another noun to modify and are never found alone.
Latin uses different suffixes in different noun declensions to make a noun possessive.
